You should contact Thompson Creek directly to make sure nothing you do will void your warranty.
is it standard to hold a cooling unit up by a belt to prevent it from leaning? this belt slipped and was tighten to again to prevent it from leaking

A picture is going to be worth a thousand words here. Are you referring to a cooling, i.e. interior unit, on HVAC?
