I believe the firm was going through some management changes during my project. My Trex deck is beautiful and was well done. However, I did not feel I was treated with respect by the management or sales personnel for the ancillary items and some additional projects. My communication was dismissed, their ancillary designs were flawed (including replacing insulation. water and soil management, site cleanup, and availability to match existing materials on change order items - e.g., paying for nonexistent materials), and record-keeping was not professional. Overcharges showed up several times. And, site work was don't done efficiently, requiring crews to reinstall materials. In my opinion, and with project management experience, professional, competent project management is missing from this firm. They need a skilled, present, and qualified project manager to work with clients and ensure proper communication, scheduling, and design with their fabulous work crews - not last-minute emergencies being managed by CB leadership and sales who claim they know nothing about the construction details. Toward the end of the project, poor planning and communication (listening or reading) became emergencies and cram downs when my work and deadlines were not considered. They need to build trust, reduce confusion, and last-minute "urgencies" to maintain their reputation. The work was not complete. They wanted to leave it as warranty work. If they can't deal with smaller items in two and a half months, I question the quality of their warranty.

Everyone involved in our project, from our 1st meeting with our salesman (Brian), to the design team, project manager and everyone else who worked so hard (especially Dave), as well as hired contractors, treated us with the utmost respect. We had our home under construction for over 6 months and I never heard anyone get upset and never heard one inappropriate comment or swear word come out of anyone's mouth (very impressive). Every crew cleaned up at the end of the day. We challenged Custom Built with some special needs on our project. We had a few hiccups along the way, mostly on our part, but Custom Built dealt with them and made sure we got what we needed.

The initial design phase took into account my wants and advice from the design agent. The construction crew started earlier that expected and used quality materials. The demolition of the old porch structure and the new construction took only three days. The crew cleaned up the work site at the end of each day.

I hired Custom Built to demolish my old deck and put up a new one with Trex decking material. The design crew and construction crew were EXCELLENT! Friendly, and did a great job. I am SO happy with my new deck! The design crew met with me three 3 times for 2-hours to show me what they had come up with as a design, and to ask about any changes I wanted to make. So thorough! We had a couple of hiccups along the way where the screens on the screens porch were to be replaced and the porch painted. We thought the screen should be done after the painting so there wouldn't be any paint on the screen. Custom Built decided to have the screen people do it and then the painting, and then paint got on the screen. They didn't factor in the new braces that would have to be put in to hold the screen. They took the old ones off and put it back on and it didn't look right. We got them to redo it, but they charged us extra money for the new slats to hold the screen on. We negotiated a little reduction on that, but they should have known ahead of time they were going to have to replace those slats. I think if they had done that, they wouldn't have put the old one back on and then taken them down and put the new one on. We ended up having to eat a lot of that because the painters ended up getting paint on the screen. We show it Custom Built and they agreed to bring the screen guys back and they replaced the panels that had paint on them. It struck me on some of these things, that if they had sequenced their work better it wouldn't have happened. I was really annoyed that we had to pay extra for the slats to hold the screen on when in my mind, they never should have put the old ones back on in the first place only to put to take them down and put new ones up. We ended up with some headaches
and it was annoying and it dragged the process out. On the front of the house, they did some new posts and replaced molding around one of the doors. The vinyl molding, first of all, was put on where the door closes and there was a gap. They should have let the door down so the vinyl molding on after the door was down so they would know there wouldn't be a gap when the doors were closed. I had them come back and replace that, they replaced the vinyl molding around the door with vinyl that had a little less surface area so it turns out that where the old vinyl covered the door at a certain level the new one doesn't so we have this unpainted section where the old vinyl use to cover. I asked them to replace it but it wasn't on their work order. Finally, I got sick of it and will have to replace it myself this Spring. I got tired of bringing then back all the time. They make good on some of the stuff and they really wanted us to be happy with it. There were certain things they could have done the first time and us not chasing them for it. I am still annoyed that I had to pay for the slats on the porch when they never should have put them back up in the first place. Once they were thrown off, they were damaged and everything else. If they knew a new slat was needed, we would have been willing to pay for it. When you have change orders, that is where the contractors kill you. Part of it was the annoyance of having them come back to do something over again.

Clean

Clean - There is a lot about Custom Built that is good. The sequences could have been done better and avoided some of this. Good on the cleanup.
