We are pleased once again by the work done by JD Coussens. We knew them from a bathroom remodel we had done in a previous house 10 years ago. So when we wanted to upgrade the kitchen in our current house we knew exactly where to start. Every step was done with appropriate professional recommendations. We started at a cabinet business, on to a counter top business, and then a tile business. Everything coordinated by Coussens and seamlessly integrated into the final project. It was never overwhelming at any step, and we were able to select from the best products in the industry for each component of the remodel. The electrical and plumbing trades were from the best in the Quad Cities and were dependable and professional at every step of the project. There were no problems with any of the work. The final result is a beautifully remodeled kitchen that we will be proud of for years to come.

We had JD come and finish our Man Cave. They did an amazing job! They informed us on products, and scheduling, and listened to our questions and concerns. We had a little issue, and they stayed on top until it was resolved. They went above and beyond.

I was very happy with the professionalism and kindness of the JD Coussens employees. They were working on replacing kitchen cabinets, installing LED lights in the kitchen and painting walls and ceiling. My mentally-challenged son lived in the small condo, and the employees went out of their way to be polite and inclusive of him. One gentleman even brought him a donut one morning! They worked very hard to make him feel comfortable with a bunch of strangers in his small living space. Clean-up was done extremely well at the end of each day, making it easy to live in the area being remodeled at the end of each day. A contractor error was made, and when I brought it to the attention of the project manager, he was very quick to resolve it to my satisfaction, with apologies. The error was not in the control of JD Coussens, but they made it right immediately. I would be glad to recommend JD Coussens Inc. to others, and will use them again in the future.

They had great workers. If we wanted anything changed they went out of their way to accommodate us. There are two reasons I would strongly recommend JD Coussens. 1 - At all times, members of my project crew were communicating with me about timing, status, issues, questions, etc., and 2 - At the end of the project, the work completed was of high quality.

You have to be flexible when things come along that interrupt the work at your house.

JD's crew did an excellent job on our bathroom - it looks amazing! They know what they're doing, communicated well, and me sure everything was done to my satisfaction.

I wouldn't recommend J D Coussens for remodeling unless you want to deal with people who don't listen to your concerns, undermine you and ultimately will do what they think is best but ends up not being correct. When we first had J D Coussens come quote our basement bathroom add-on, they both came out and took a look at the space we had available. We had already pre-determined where we wanted the bathroom layout to be as we had a previous plumber do the installation for the plumbing. When J D Coussens arrived, they agreed with the space provided and wanted to make some changes. We went back and forth on what was "appropriate" and within code and ultimately decided to move the doorway placement. While they were there to quote the addition, we voiced our concerns for the advanced slope in our floors and wanted to guarantee that they would be able to level out the floor and have the floor drain working correctly, which it was already working, we wanted to ensure that wouldn't change. They said no problem and it would be level and have a fully functional working bathroom and drain. We got our quote with the floor leveling, framing, painting and installation of all fixtures. We signed our quote, and they started the work. When it came time for them to lay the concrete for the sloped floors we were met with extra charges that were not mentioned in our quote. We went back and forth with them for over a week on the fact that they were at our house, had seen the advanced sloping in the floors and quoted us for the leveling which was agreed upon. They finally agreed to do the work they had promised with no additional charges. When the shower stall was installed, the plumber did a shotty job with caulking around the seams and it looks like a child did it, our shower handle was installed incorrectly, and we had to have them come back out to fix it. On one of the final days of work one of their contractors/employees broke our drain and claimed that the "ball" was stuck in the floor drain. The "ball" he was referring to was a cast iron ball float, for the floor drain to stop water from coming back up the drain. So this worker had to break this ball float to get it out of the floor and I found it odd that J D Coussens didn't know this and tried to blame us for that "ball" being in there. After multiple calls back and forth they finally agreed to fix their error. Well after 2 weeks of no one returning our calls or texts we had to call another plumber to fix their issue because the water was still backing up from the floor drain and we ended up having to pay them for extra work because of the concrete residue that was in the drain from the work J D Coussens did. The only other complaint I had with their work was that our sink doesn't even sit flush with the floor. There is a gap on the front corner where they, I assume didn't level the floor correclty. And when they installed our door, they installed an off-white door, when all the trim was very white. It looks terrible, do better honestly. When we finally went in to pay the rest of our agreed upon work, we were met with extra charges for floor leveling that we had already agreed wasn't our responsibility. We paid the amount that was quoted and not a dollar more. Again, I wouldn't recommend J D Coussens for remodeling since it seems they don't know how to complete work the correct way the first time. And they will try and blame you and skate out of actually fixing work they didn't do correctly.

Our project was handled very professionally, customized to meet our needs. Everyone worked hard to make sure our expectations were met. The pride they took in their work was evident.

I would recommend! Very nice and easy to communicate with! Took longer than originally thought, but much of that was just due to supply and COVID issues.

Additional Comments - If you are looking for a contractor that honestly cares about the customer, what they need and how they wanted it done, you need to give JD Coussens a call. When the project was finished, one of the sub-contractors had left behind some items, I contacted JD Coussens and within 2 days, it was all gone and cleaned up. We dealt with several contractors during this project, JD Coussens definitely stood out as the one honestly concerned with the customer.

Edgar did a great job on the ceiling (it's my husband's favorite part of the project). Alan had an eye for detail on the projects, as well as confidently addressed any ideas we through his way or questions asked.

I hired JD Coussens to finish my basement. They did an amazing job at an affordable price. They worked well with me in the planning and design stage, everything was done professionally, and the contractors and subcontractors were the type of people I felt comfortable having in my home. I really appreciated the way in which Jerry Coussens worked collaboratively with my architect to get to the desired "look" of the garage and loft, working the whole of the project into the back yard, down to feet and inches within the property and setback lines.Jerry's choice of and relationships with the subcontractors tapped into high quality work that would have taken me months (or years) (or never...) to develop: roof truss concrete, retaining wall, electrical, gas & plumbing, roofing and guttering contractors all showed up on time and kept what was a pretty complex project on schedule. Jerry's and his crew's knowledge of materials and best building practices saved me a lot of what would have been mis-spent time on my part trying to learn the trades; and, that knowledge and those relationships surely saved more than the nominal overhead of running them all through him as General Contractor.I enjoyed interacting with his work crew (which often included Jerry as equipment operator), who were good-natured, helpful, and willing to discuss the different steps in construction, and share their knowledge and insight for my edification.I couldn't be more pleased with the whole project, and the working relationship to resolve the very few areas of the project that hadn't been foreseen in the planning stages. I would recommend JD Coussens to any of my friends or acquaintances that I think would be the kind of customers the firm deserves to work with.

I would absolutely hire J D Coussens to do some work again, but if they are going to use same subcontractors I wouldn't recommend them ever again. Lee does excellent work and so does Keith, but I was very disappointed with the subcontractors.

I enjoyed my experience with their designer, Jen Peters. Her design work was phenomenal. Their suggestions to better the organization of the kitchen and overall design of my home was perfect. They are coming back soon to replace my front door and I am looking forward to that.

Areas Of Satisfaction - Every aspect of my experience was very organized. If we wanted to change anything or they planned to do something different, it was always discussed first.

Jennifer designed the kitchen and extra living area we had always dreamed of. She and Jerry provided us with options that were within our budget. She helped us throughout the remodel with addtional design and color options. Our production manager Keith keep us informed of what steps were going to be completed next and when. He quickly resolved any problems that we noticed without hesitation. Keith was always available when we needed to ask questions for any reasons. Our carpenters Mark and Monty were wonderful.
