I spent 34,000 dollars on a simple kitchen remodel (as told to me by the designer, installers and project manager) that required greater than 190 days to complete. I could have done this job for 1/2 the cost with materials equal to or better in 2/3s of the time. It took me two to three months to fill this survey out professionally.
The design attention to detail was poor: 1) Island was too large, it was reduced during the preconstruction meeting, then they installed an island that wobbled due to poor design (doors on both sides), they fixed it but that took a week of effort. 2) I had to point out the island was missing a power outlet per electrical code - they fixed it but should have done this without my having to insist on it 3) existing electrical outlets were not all taken into account and we now have an outlet inside a cabinet where none is needed 4) transition pieces between doors/other rooms were not included in the design 5) built in microwave power run via a cable in a cabinet which reduces the cabinets usefulness 6) cabinet design was not discussed with us much so details such as how far open the doors swing were not covered, some doors don't open as far as needed 7) the space allotted for the refrigerator did not allow for potential issues with a refrigerator that might be larger than the spec - we got an out of spec refrigerator, they were no help in resolving the problem (we are still working to resolve this problem 3 months later)
The work itself was done with workers who didn't pay attention to details. We had two floor vents covered up. They knew about one, I had to point out the other which lead to rework being needed. In another case the drawings clearly showed where power wires needed to be moved and they weren't until i pointed it out.
Communications with the company did not go as quickly, smoothly or promised by Anthony. Schedules were changed all the time and I never knew what days or at what time of day workers would show up. You talk to a worker who says i will see you in the morning, then they don't show up and we got no notice. We were promised photos of the days work each day in the Builders Trend app. Apparently the sub contractors were not required to post such photos. The main staff did so on a catch as can basis. I get it that supply chain issues had some affect on scheduling but what about giving the customer some notice?
I will say that the cabinet and countertop installers and plumbers were excellent. They came in, did their jobs quietly, cleaned up and left. The carpenter was very good when he wasn't talking to somebody.
I had the distinct feeling that other jobs were more important to them than ours which affected scheduling of workers for our job. Just my luck to catch them when they were super busy.
We are very satisfied with the quality of the materials used, of course we paid for that quality.
I would definitely share our experience, both positives and negatives.
There is no communication and no real organization of the process.
This rating is based on from the point of doing the contract to the end of the project.
We were very pleased with everyone who worked on our project. They were professional, friendly and did quality work. We would go to them again for our next project.
The entire staff was outstanding to work with and the final product was exactly what we wanted!!
The workers did Great job, needs better project management.
Quality of work and materials was exceptional. Communication had some issues.
Communication was not very good. We were constantly having to follow up on the project.
Job took a lot longer than was suppose to. Terrible communication and we were never sure who was going to show up at the job site and at what time. It would of been nice to have the same people come back to the job. You get comfortable with the the workers then somebody new comes out and they are not sure what they are actually supposed to be doing, my husband had to inform them. When a worker was requested we were told that they were not available that they were sent to another job. When we did request a worker for our backsplash we were told he was not the right person to do what needed to be done, but the person that was sent out to do the job did terrible and we had to have someone else come out and fix the job. Has another instance when someone came to fix some issues, they left and did not notify my husband (he was working from home) that he was done and it ended up that there was still a problem so someone else had to come out and fix that problem. Also, items should be verified before sent to the customer. We had items installed that were not the correct item ordered, items were damaged and had to be replaced by manufacture and when the workers came to install the items that needed to be replaced they had to wrong item (item belonged at another customer site).
Will not recommend them for any job…..poor communication or none at all….
Communication was excellent. Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design walked me through every step of the process.
Anthony from extremely Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design was helpful and had good taste. Anthony was very good at recommending color choices.
We would definitely recommend Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & design to family and friends. Everything we got from them was a high-quality product at a fair price. We will definitely use them in the future for any renovations needed.
Communication about when crew would be at the home was poor. The key was no longer in the lock box( left on the counter) and I had people showing up to my home unannounced when I was not expecting them. The cabinets are poorly put together, staples able to be seen on over half the doors. Spoke with a sales rep from the cabinet company and he had not be notified of the issues when we were told that he was. The grout is cracking and chipping again after already being fixed once. I was told on the final walk through that it is now a warranty problem. Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with the experience.
Quality of work is outstanding
Quality workmanship, very respectful of our home. Design team knowledgeable and friendly.
Our overall experience was really tainted by the sloppy tilework and dealings with Paul Jenkins. If you choose this company I recommend capturing all communication and questions through their Buildertrend app so it's all documented.
I really like the quality of the work and the products. I, however, don't feel that we have been treated as valued customers. We have been waiting for a part that was supposedly ordered in October that has never arrived. We don't receive any updates about it and I wonder if anyone is even thinking about our job anymore.
It's the best quality of work for the price.
I extremely disappointed in customer service, management of project and communication from Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design. Especially from upper management during the entire project.
I really appreciated their professionalism. They took a lot of time to explain the process. The workers were very professional while executing the work.
They did an excellent job. The craftsmanship was excellent!
We contracted to have your countertops replaced and a new backsplash installed. The workmanship on the countertop installation was poor. The seams were poorly matched and there was a large gap between my countertop and my cabinets. In some places the gap was over and inch. I told the installers that it was unacceptable and they said my cabinets were not level and they had to shim the countertop to be level. I was told that covering the gap with trim was our responsibility. I argued with Anthony that spending over $5,000 should mean I didn't have additional work too do for a finished countertop. I asked for a discount to compensation for your dissatisfaction. My request was denied. The gap remained our responsibility and we had to pay the full contracted price.
It was nice to have a schedule and a clear way to communicate with everyone.
I would recommend that people completely understand the bid they are given from the company prior to signing a contract.
Definitely! I’m very happy I chose The Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design to replace my kitchen floor.
This is my first major remodel and it was not a good experience. The materials and final design are great, I love them. The workers, electrical and plumbing contractors were all professional and did a great job. Unfortunately the delays and the foremen and project managers were less than professional and optimal. The original foreman quit within a few weeks of the beginning of my job because of the lack of communication within your company. He and I had discussed the placement of some electrical/light switches and when the electricians came they had no knowledge of our conversation and were told by the replacement foreman (who was the project manager) when they suggested different placement of the electrical outlets that they were not to do anything different than place them where they were originally. (The original kitchen was outdated and they electrical outlets really could have been placed with the electricians recommendations)
As far as the design, I told Anthony what I wanted to spend. The first design came in more than double that amount. It was beautiful but not appropriate for the size of my home and so far away from my budget. Hindsight shows I should have left then and found another contractor that listened to me and has project managers and foreman that take pride in their job, are professional and keep to a time schedule within reason. My job was supposed to be completed by June 10th and wasn't done until into the beginning of July. Other issues were the dumpster arrived late and was removed before all the contractor trash was removed from my garage. I had to ask repeatedly for the trash to be removed. Miscommunication about the painting, the countertop templating and my ability to go to the granite dealer and pick my own granite out (This was something that Anthony told me about but no one mentioned it during the job)I was not kept updated on work done with the exception of John Dees and Butch when they were at the house and did notes with pictures. All in all the communication wasn't great and most of the work was supposed to be done while I was on vacation. The job was supposed to be done by then and when I saw that it was not I made plans with both Kyle and Darryl to contact my son who was in town and also my daughter, but there were so many problems that nothing got accomplished that week delaying the countertop template and install and substantial completion and keeping me on buildertrend then whole week I was on vacation. I am not going to recommend Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors and design to anyone.
We had a bathroom remodeled. Our experience was not good. Poor workmanship. Poor contractor oversight. Paint job was a disaster. A backup contractor was sent in at one point to fix/finish work the primary contractor left undone. Still finding paint problems that we have been correcting ourselves rather than have another worker from the company return. Our garage, our patio, and our yard were used as work areas (which we agreed to) but all were left in a sorry state due to a sloppy contractor. We have undertaken many remodels of homes over the years and never, ever, have we experienced such an awful experience. The daily problems were endless, exasperating and could have been prevented.
Quality of work is great & that is what was recommended to us by friends that had used the company for their project. These friends, as well as us, found the communication between the So MD administration to the workers to have many holes/issues which was the main source of frustration. We want to emphasize that we feel the communication issues came from top down. We communicated, as directed, through Buildertrend. It appears as if BuilderTrend was not used consistently throughout the company. Lastly, we dealt with 4 separate plumbing leaks - and that is unacceptable!
The customer experience was not great. We felt like we were forgotten about a couple of times (no show for office and site appts) and an item we were promised (island extension framing) was later charged to us the day of the build, which we had to negotiate down but still pay.
Workers were great in their areas of expertise; however, communication with a solid schedule was not present.
They did a wonderful job and I highly recommend them.
I would not recommend them because of their lack of communication and their lack of professionalism and being on time.
After they received my money, I no longer existed. No phone calls returned, products ordered were incorrect, no support, and management would not return my phone call for three weeks until they needed additional money for a cabinet that was incorrectly ordered.
We have not heard back yet from So. MD Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design concerning water seepage under the shower tiles. So I cannot rate this question until that is taken care of.
I had to call them to see what was going on because they just didn't come out when they were supposed to.
We chose to Use a designer because we needed help with vision. We should have stopped our relationship very early in the process but Covid and other circumstances interfered. We did not have help with designing. The “designer” was focused on selling rather than ensuring a kitchen we would love. We do not love our kitchen.
They are very professional! The craftsmanship was outstanding!
The overall process was quit frustrating, but we are happy with the final results. We would not recommend based on the amount of frustration we had to deal with at the price point of a high quality job. I understand that our job was conducted under Covid-19 restrictions and maybe the process would have proceeded differently under normal circumstances. But the frustration did not stem from schedule slip or exposure concerns, it came from poor communication, lack of attention to detail, and having to rework multiple steps of the job.
We have already recommended your services to a neighbor.
I would recommend this company but with a caveat. You have examine the materials they install. The 2 vanities we bought are incomplete and have still not been rectified.
I think the project was given to someone that was beyond their ability. At least they did it the rework during that time, and we did not have to wait until the end. It was supposed to we a week-long project; it took them two weeks to complete the work. There is a lot of dissatisfaction with how they left the project. There was a lot of dissatisfaction with the Project Managers. When the Project Managers came out at the end, they told us they offer a house cleaning service, which was not shared upfront. There was a lot of displeasure with how they conducted themselves. In my opinion, it was not professional.
not sure
The project took more the twice the time that it should have.
It was not a very easy process with them. The finished product is nice, but the process was difficult.
I was not satisfied with the professionalism and communication.
They have done good work for us in two homes. The one in Southern Maryland (2014) was a bit better than the one in Alexandria (2017).
One year and a half after completing the kitchen remodeling job, I am still in awe of the job they did, from initial design to choice of paint colors, to expertise in tearing out walls, to laying tile, to installing cupboards, and to keeping to the initial agreed-upon schedule. I have found absolutely NO flaws. I especially appreciated the outstanding design expertise and they were cheerful and easy to work with, welcoming my input at all times. I thank you, Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath Floors & Design!
