We were impressed with Two Storey Building the moment they came to our house to discuss our kitchen remodel project and goals. They were professional, very knowledgeable, experienced in building whole homes, and very engaged. They even organized a whole day to drive 2 hrs with us to a custom cabinet showroom and manufacturing floor so we could learn more about the process, our choices, and meet with our kitchen designer in person. This was our first time going through a remodel, and we did a lot of research along the way. Still, we are so grateful for Doug, Camden, Mat, and Sam for making the process as stress-free and as predictable as possible. They were not only communicative and transparent with us throughout the project, but they were also respectful of our decisions and accommodating to our requests. We were able to stay very close to the initial estimated schedule. Their choice of trade partners is also top notch! After a while, it was good to be able to just trust that the companies they work with (for the electrical work, flooring, painting, etc.) were all best in class and reliable. We are beyond thrilled with the result and are already thinking about future projects we'll want to do with them.

Two Storey was great to work with for our recent bathroom renovation. They are good at everything from start to finish. Their communication is excellent. Our family's dream was to convert a barn/garage into an in-law apartment so that multiple generations could reside comfortably on the same property. Doug and his team were with us every step of the way, from initial concept through detailed design and build-out. The Two Storey Building team (and their subcontractors) spent *a lot* of time on our property, and everyone was always super helpful and careful. They kept us informed about the schedule and let us know about any changes or adjustments. When we had to make key decisions, Doug and his team made sure we had plenty of options and they talked us through the pros and cons. Overall, it was a great experience and we are totally thrilled with the finished project.

They were very responsive to our needs for a very extensive remodel. They were always on time and did excellent work.

Two Storey Building was a great fit for us in a number of ways: they are an environmentally focused/green company, they were willing to put up with changes in plans to exapnd or contract the project as needed, they were willing to use recycled or re-used materials when we could get them - and in one case, helped us get them! (2200 SF of re-purposed barnboard), and they enjoyed working on our small, quirky yet complex project! This was the first time we have hired a general contractor, and they were well worth the extra money, identifying and coordinating extremely skilled crews from framing and roofing to electricians and plumbing and painting; procuring necessary permits; even finding a well contractor to dig a new well with good water. Crews were uniformly courteous and considerate of our very close (14 feet away!) 92 year old neighbor.

During COVID, many construction projects are delayed months for lack of people and mateial resources, and Doug of TSB used his expertise and connections to minimize delays greatly. Mat, his lead carpenter, was patient and skillful, and had great design ideas but also worked our design concepts into the final picture.

I would more accurately give them a 4.5 rating: we had some communication issues, some of which were our fault for not understanding all the details and ramifications, some of which were the responsibility of TSB - but to their credit, they accepted responsibility and apologized, and were eager to improve communication as we moved forward. No company is perfect, but I would definitely use TSB again if needed. They are good people, want the customer to be highly pleased with the final product and highly skilled at what they do.

We had the pleasure of working with TSB on a whole home renovation this past year. The team listened to our requests, developed creative solutions and we are now in our ‘brand new’ forever home. We hired Two Storey Building as our general contractor. They subbed-out 90% of the work, but that was the understanding from the beginning, not a surprise. They chose good companies that they were familiar with and had worked with before. The work would have been finished ahead of schedule, but the weather didn't cooperate, July was the rainiest on record. Even with the weather things went very well, finished just a week or so late, (again, due to the weather, not because of any issues with Two Storey or the crews) and we are happy with the outcome.

Schedule - Good management of subcontractors, started on time and generally finished when expected with few minor delays here and there. Our project was estimated at about 6 months but took about 10+ months. Larger delays were primarily due tasks managed by homeowner (writing this review), including geothermal/hvac and buried electrical installation with different contractors. Two Storey supported those activities where necessary (ended up tackling the buried electrical) as well as doing a basement reno outside of original 6 month scope...a ‘while you’re in there’ add-on requested by homeowner. Next time I’d have Two Storey manage all of it.

Value

Value - We really wanted to do it right the first time and have a comfortable, durable, energy efficient home. We selected Two Storey based on positive reviews, similar renovations and green building expertise- and they delivered. They did a good job of staying on top of costs and budget, although we added on quite a bit of extras (~20%). Building and renovating in the Boston area is not cheap, any way you slice it. Forget HGTV. We intend to enjoy the house for many years, and therefore tried to balance high quality construction choices (where sensible) with some consideration for near term house market values. Overall we feel like we got good value for the money, and the house is awesome.

Two Storey Building was fantastic. They took a drab, crumbly basement and turned it into a gorgeous, bright, sparkling, airy space that we now use every day. The ceiling, the walls, the floors, rebuilding the stairs, putting in a bathroom - there was a lot of work here and every bit of it looks top-notch now. When I asked questions, both Doug (one of the owners) and Jerry (the foreman on our job) responded promptly and clearly. I felt I always knew what was happening and had a clear view of the schedule. They are not the least expensive, but the quality of work is so great that I feel it was worth every last cent.

It was very easy working with Two Storey and the results were great! We definitely would recommend them.

Areas For Improvement - They exceeded our expectations at every turn, even when there were issues with the project, they were responsive and worked hard to remedy the problems.

Two Storey Building added a new Timberteck deck with LED lights on the stairs to our pool with stairs down to both sides of the yard. In addition they completely gutted and redid our sunroom with new ceiling, walls, insulation and flooring, removing and replacing where the former door was with a window and adding a new sliding to where 3 sunroom windows were. Included was removal of some insulation in the area beneath the sunroom and adding new all insulation and ceiling the ceiling in the area below. Doug was always in touch, worked with subcontractors on portions of the work and Jerry did very professional work. We did not like the building inspector ADA required wood railings so they were replaced with TimberTeck for no maintenance and the required young child gates at the bottom we were able to get slits added that fit in with the code requirements which enable seeing the stair LED's from a distance in the yard. Great work. Thanks again. We will be in touch for the next project.

The co-managers, Doug and Bill, met our expectations for meetings and allowing us to be fully involved in the process. The use of meeting notes, action items, and detailed schedules (MS Project) was very effective to keeping the overall effort on schedule. We had obtained quotes from 4 other contractors. Doug was the most receptive, responsible and patient contractor with a price that made sense. We liked him and gave us a good vibe. Before we started the project we we amazed and how confident he was in giving us a timetable (microsoft project) with estimated dates from completion on different parts of the project. He followed them to the letter. Many of our friend were pessimistic and told us that no contractor will folow dates that it may take more than a year to complete. Doug, Bill and his crew completed the job in 4 1/2 months. We could not believe even with a 1 week delay from the city inspection!! The finishes are great and the quality of materials top notch. Working with Doug we came to realize that our architectural/engineering firm had made a mistake on the type of beams to use. Doug used his engineer and corrected the problem at no extra charge.This kind of projects are very detailed ones. I would recommend you estimate an extra 10% from the quote since from the allowances my wife and I changed many things which made us expend and extra 40K but not Dougs fault.Doug and Bill (his brother) are very receptive and always listening and never dismissed. He also set up multiple meetings to update us in the progression of the project and make sure we understood what the next step was and when we needed to decide on specific things like light fixtures, wall paint, floor finishes.When the work was done his crew came different times at no charge for minor adjustments.A few pieces of advice1. Have a architectural plan approved by your city and fire department 2. Make your addition as big as you are allowed and affordability3. You can not live in the house while it is happening so you need to pay for rent, but the bank will not charge you mortgage during the construction4. Find a reliable bank, Doug got very annoyed when the bank intentionally delayed payment due to laziness form their end.5. Have extra cash that you are willing to spend for the change orders6. I would recommend Doug a million times, he is a good and fair contractor.

We contacted Two Storey Building on August 17th, seeking full contractor services for renovations to a 6500-sqft home including 4000 sqft of new hardwood flooring, full kitchen renovations, detailed master bath tiling, various wall additions and relocations with associated electrical and plumbing, full interior and exterior painting, and extensive exterior brick masonry and architectural details. We wanted to begin work three weeks later and be finished by the holidays. Two Storey responded at once, discussed the sub-tasks and material options with us by email over the next few days, arranged a meeting at the property a week later with all required subcontractors present, prepared a cost estimate within another week which we approved, and started demo work the morning after we closed on the house. For the next three months they worked closely with us on every aspect of the ongoing work--materials selection, design options, construction details, and scheduling. Two Storey provided first-rate craftsmanship, direct access to both the owner and foreman, excellent coordination of construction sub-tasks, rapid response to our questions, execution of change orders at reasonable pricing and with minimal impact to schedule, excellent raw material and construction waste management, adaptability of activities around our availability for review or consultation, and open presentation of all costs. (They even assisted with power to the house during hurricane Sandy). The final project tasks were re-sequenced to accommodate our move-in in early December and wrapped up a week later, allowing us to be fully settled in by Christmas. Including our changes, we finished within 10% of the initial cost estimate. All in all we were quite pleased with the experience and the outcome, and with no hesitation would recommend Two Storey Building to others considering home construction or renovations.

They are a little expensive when compared to other contractors, but they do as they promise, they deliver great work and paying a little extra for that is worth it. No hassles and if any problems afterwards they stand by their work/product. I will always recommend them when asked, will tell them they are maybe a little more exp. but they take care of it and you have no hassles (money well spend). Besides that the people they employ are professionals, very nice nice to work with, they show flexiibility throughout the job (within reason) and our next job (garage) we will definitely invite them again. We were very pleased with the planning process, and our salesperson was very open. We did a build-by-design so we said how much we could spend and they came up with a reasonable plan that fit our budget. The timeline was wonderful and he really stuck to what he said, in fact taking a little less time than predicted--he said it would take about three months and that's what it was.The quality was excellent, and the workers were very professional and open and really kept us in the loop about changes and what the cost differences would be for different options. Overall it's excellent quality and a great product.
