I have used Case Design/Fred, Inc. for multiple major renovations over the past several years. They have very knowledgeable Project Coordinators and high quality craftsmen. The high quality end product justifies the “gold standard” of workmanship.

I rarely recommend contractors, so this is a hypothetical question.

We contracted with FRED because we wanted a company that would give us the best end result on a challenging job which was to refinish the exterior of our 30-year-old wood garage doors. As the finish on one of the doors had been damaged our objective was to have both doors appear similar in color when the work was completed.

FRED staff did a beautiful refinishing job on the door that hadn’t been damaged, and their staff put in a lot of effort on the damaged door. However, despite their efforts the appearance of the two doors is different. While one door has a rich color tone and is smooth the other door is a somewhat different (and duller) color because of the rougher wood grain.

To their credit, FRED advised us before we contracted with them (as well as during the job) that it would be difficult to achieve a match. However, we were hopeful that the coloration would be the same even if the roughness of the wood was different. In hindsight, we probably should have installed new garage doors given their age and the challenges involved.

Despite this, we still feel that FRED is a company that we will use again if we want quality work.

I think they are timely and efficient and they generally did a good job.

I already knew of Fred through Case Design, which had done a major renovation to my home during the pandemic. I figured that for this relatively small project, sure, I’d be paying more than if I went through a handyman or the like, but I’d be getting quality service from a company with whom I felt comfortable. And yes, the sizing up and delivery of the project went well, but when a problem arose shortly after my last payment, suddenly the relationship changed, and I felt that the customer service aspect of our relationship was less than ideal. Happily, one individual with Case, the wonderful Elle Hunter, personally saw things through, and I so appreciate her doing so.

All steps in the process were well planned and executed. Professional pleasant staff and skilled workman.

The relatively small project took a long time to get done start to finish

Fred did work that we thought would not be done by anyone. They took our desire to make improvements that would be consistent with the 1940s age of our home.

Project manager has been very considerate and understanding. His suggestion of ideas has been very helpful.

I used FRED Home improvement because they were able to repair a broken plaster bulkhead in my garage and seamlessly repair drywall ceiling water damage. The completed work was of high quality. You cannot tell where the repairs were made.

Everyone at FRED was responsive and easy to work with, and our finished deck and deck stairs are perfect!

We’ve already been sharing our positive experiences with our friends and family.

My project was (1) a flat roof replacement and (2) repair of the underlying soffit. Regarding job (1): the roof replacement appears adequate, but there are several concerns that have yet to be addressed by FRED's roofing subcontractor. I have been told twice that the roofer would contact me, but after two months I have heard nothing. Regarding job (2): the soffit repair is excellent.

I suspect other vendors are cheaper, but I felt simpatico with Fred's ads in the Washington Post.

This was the 2nd project FRED has done in this house. Top quality craftsmen and subcontractors that can deal with almost any issue that may occur. Project manager always available snd on top of project.

Quality of construction was very good. Only minor issues with the design not being exactly what I had specified (but it was pretty close). Biggest issue was that it took 6 months to complete. 3 months of that time were spent waiting for a city permit, so that was not FRED's fault.

We would use them again.

Great experience with consultant. Quality work completed. Higher cost than other estimates received, but that seemed a trade-off for knowledge and reputation.

The people working at FRED are good at their jobs, but most days there was only one person on the job when two were really needed. This caused the work to go slowly and over schedule. There was an issue with the project manager because the first manager quit a few weeks before the renovations were to start, which caused a 6 week delay in the renovation start time. Some information was lost during the transfer of the project to a new manager which resulted in some work being done that was not what I wanted and it couldn't be fixed.

We have used Fred 7 times now. It's so easy to get skilled contractors to do our jobs.

Everything was perfect. The work was timely, on budget and lean. Our manager Joe Rocco and our on site supervisor Ivan were positive, caring and excellent communicators.

They did great work, kept the area clean, finished ahead of time and gave great advice.

Fred contractors are not only extremely competent, but also respectful of our home, our time and our neighbors. They take stress and drama out of our home improvement project. They do things right the first time so we can get on with our life. We feel very fortunate to work with them.

I was skeptical of working with Fred originally because of the price tag. However, the Fred team is worth it! They treated my house as if it was their own, fixing and communicating with us any and all issues (including issues that prior contractors to our home would have seen and chose not to fix). Our team was very communicative and attended to our needs, most of the time, anticipating them before we asked. We are so pleased with the end result--it is nicer than a five star hotel!

Their contractors are consistently reliable and skilled in performing the work.

FRED was wonderful to work with. They were prompt and responsive to questions before and during the project. The work was completed on time and looks great! It was, by far, the easiest and best experience we have had with a contractor.

My husband and I were very impressed with FRED Home Improvement... from the initial inquiry to the completion of the project, each interaction was handled with the utmost professionalism. They understood the value of time, respected ours, and consistently showed up when they said they would. Their commitment to quality and attention to every detail is another reason why we will be repeat customers.

The company was expensive, BUT they did do a very good job. I was completely satisfied.

Everyone I dealt with was very courteous and professional. Mr. Khiel came out and knew exactly what was needed to complete the job - the very next morning I had a comprehensive detailed estimate. The carpenters who did the work had all the necessary tools and material on day one and worked together very efficiently. When the job was completed, they thoroughly cleaned the job site and secured the area for the next vendor.

FRED Home Improvenent is a first class design/construction company. Our project consultant, Joe Rocco, was always available. He gave us options, listened to our concerns and stopped by several times to check on the project. Terry, our skilled carpenter was exceptional. Our powder room looks beautiful and we’re very satisfied with FRED, and won’t hesitate to use them, again. Also, the powder room renovations, was completed on time.

Our project was completed in a stress free and short two days. We have learned to just ´letting Fred do it’ simplifies our home improvements. Thank you Fred (Steve and Jose)

I am ambivalent and believe it would depend on type of improvement to be made

The work that FRED Home Improvement does is utterly professional. They are kind and thoughtful people. I could not be more pleased to work with them.

They completed my project in a timely fashion and did not make it bigger or more expensive than it needed to be.

Overall very good

Everyone who worked on our project did a great job. We are happy with the results. However, our little project took more than 6 months. We were estimated as a seven work-days project but it wasn't up front pointed out that those days could be very far apart with occasionally little contact. It felt like FRED was short on project managers (who might be overloaded) and
skilled people, and long on bigger projects, so, again it wasn't the fault of the people who worked on our project. Upper management needed to "under-promise and over-deliver" by making sure we knew that the project would take longer than normal because of (fill in the reasons).

This is our 6th FRED/CASE project and we will use them again

The Fred to was thorough and organized. We could not be any happier with the professionalism of the guys that performed all the work!

Always remember, you get what you pay for. Fred is the best.

Staff are extraordinarily careful to safeguard home from damage which can be inflicted by equipment, materials, and trash. They are trustworthy to the core, attentive to client's concerns /anxieties, and carefully compliant with condominium rules and regulations.

I would suggest more but its quite expensive and I am not sure my friends would be able to afford it.
