Since we would only ever be honest, we would have to share the recent experiences which have revealed some substandard work by a couple of the subcontractors.

I have worked with them on several projects. They are a professional organization that does good work and pays attention to the customer's needs and interactions.

We are very pleased with our experience with Golden Rule. From the front office staff, the design team, the building crew and project manager, all were pleasant, knowledgeable, respectful, and easy to work with. They are dedicated to quality building and providing a wonderful home. No design build if flawless, but in general things went seamlessly. I was pleased that I put my trust in GRB. They have done the right thing and the quality of construction is high. I'd recommend going with GRB from the stand point of trust and quality. You can count on them to correct things when they aren't perfect. That is hard to find in today's business climate. GRB lives by the name they have and all members of the team treat people they way they would want to be treated.

I will only recommend you to folks that want the highest quality work done. People interested in work that's merely "good enough" should shop elsewhere. You will absolutely get what you pay for, our renovation is not cheap, but we have quality in our renovation not found anywhere else, and I'm willing to pay for the BEST. Anyone wanting it done meticulously right and virtually flawless will want GRB.

We are very happy with how the process went. From conception (they listened to our wants to include, we cant move forward without an idea for pricing and provided that for us so we could obtain financing) to helping us design the project with the future in mind, not just the now, to constant communication with us one status and ultimately delivering a beautiful finished product. It has allowed us to stay in my husband's childhood home while also making room for our family.

With being new to hiring a contractor, I was surprised and uncomfortable with initial pricing. Golden Rule worked with me to get to a more comfortable level of expenses. Now, almost done, they have worked with me throughout the process to achieve goals I thought about as the journey progressed. Even if I caused frustration, they did not show it to me.

Golden Rule is a great company to work with. They are attentive and helpful in creating one’s vision and work well with other architects to make one’s vision come to life. We used GRB to completely renovate our kitchen. I've been familiar with their excellent reputation for 20 years so I included them when soliciting bids. During the bidding/design process, Jeff Nolte (GRB sales/design), came up with the design we liked best. We ended up giving his suggestion to the other bidding builders. As I expected, GRB was not the lowest bid. But we went with them because we felt that we knew what we were getting. We knew they were going to meet our expectations without any hassles. And they came through 100%. We love the new layout and quality of the materials and workmanship.

Workmanship was close to excellent. Cost was much higher than expected and much higher than all others. Every little thing required a "change order" which added cost every time.

Our overall experience with Golden Rule was fantastic and we would recommend to a friend. Our onset experience with the initial sales rep was not ideal but Golden Rule's leadership and commitment to customer service was evident in the way that they worked with us and our dissatisfaction to get to a contract that we were both comfortable with.

While we appreciate GRB's desire to make it right and work with us on our budget, we did find that certain design elements were overlooked as a result (more below) and that is the reason we are deducting a star.

However, we cannot recommend or say enough good things about our Project Manager, Tom Hambleton. Tom was professional, courteous, and went above and beyond, providing great recommendations/guidance throughout. We truly felt like we were his priority during the build and because of our experience with Tom and his project management, we would recommend GRB and we have, on at least three occasions in recent weeks, recommended GRB to passers-by who ask for contact information.

I have been a customer of GRB for many years-over 20 years now. I continue to count on GRB for quality workmanship and excellent client service.

This is my second time working with Golden Rule and they again exhibited quality work which is always done in a professional manner. They built my home in 2010 and just completed a kitchen remodel as well as some updates. The kitchen remodel exceeded my expectations. As with most construction there were unexpected situations that arose but they were handled and resolved with skilled proficiency in a timely manner. I would highly recommend GRB to anyone considering building a home or remodeling.

Successful remodeling comes down to the positive relationship between the people managing the project and the homeowner. When there are glitches in the supply chain, permit challenges, or undetected structural failures unrelated to the project but needing repair before the project can be completed, an experienced team is crucial. Our team was Dennis Reitz, Jerry Swartzentruber, and Roger Martin, as well as the administrative staff at Golden Rule Builders. Not only did these people adhere to the "Golden Rule" but also the Golden Rule Builders philosophy of providing a quality product and service.

We've used Golden Rule Builders several times over the years for repairs and remodeling. They have always done a quality, professional job. They are reliable and always stay in communication regarding projects.Their employees are well trained, very skilled, dependable and never have to be micro-managed. I love GRB. I have used them for large and small projects for the last 10 years and would never consider using anyone else. GBR's communication, organization, project management, and skillset are top notch.

It's a mixed bag. The work done inhouse by GRB is good but many of the subcontractors are poorly run operations (e.g., framers, plumbers, insulation...)

Comedy of errors

For our family, GRB was really helpful to think through options to create a small apartment for my parents. The solution you built is one that we would not have thought of and I believe will serve our family well. As the contact for the project, I appreciated the knowledge to help us think through options and the responsiveness to take care of the things that came up along the way.
