Great experience overall with our new home. Heartland made the process very easy for us from start to finish! I have already shared the positive experience with friends and family. Heartland's clearly defined process was supplemented with a robust on-line portal that added clarity and transparency, especially around budget, plus an opportunity to ask questions. Interior Designer Benefit - I cannot say enough about the time Jen spend educating me! She was dealing with a complete novice and made our many sessions, both in-person and via messaging truly delightful (at least to me). Many times I would laugh out loud at the questions I was asking, hoping Jen didn't find them (and me) totally ridiculous. Outside water spigots come to mind.....I am positive she was the absolute best fit for me, my personality, and the circumstances. No doubt I would not have been as comfortable and been able to navigate the selection process without her sense of humor, guidance and expertise.

PM Professionalism - Josh is truly a professional and navigated and explained every step of the building process........and I was 10 hours away. He consulted, shared photos and checked in with questions. I could not have felt more confident in what was going on. He is an excellent text/email communicator; very kind, sensitive and with a touch of fun and excitement. Excellent project manager and I feel fortunate he was in charge of my build.

Schedule - If there were delays, it was on my end and during the selection process. I had moved back to Maryland, took on a new project at work, was dealing with mother-care issues from afar and was distracted. Support and kind prodding got me back on track. I celebrated from afar (in Maryland) when the construction loan was executed. From there, things took off on a steady but rapid pace thanks to Josh and his Team.

Value - Of course time will tell but I have every reason to believe I received fair value. I know budget for a full scale, total renovation was less but after talking with trusted friends and advisors, the extra cost for a new build made the decision obvious - go with the new build,

Additional Comments - From my perspective, Heartland's process resonated with me. From the first meeting at a HomeBuilders show in downtown Grand Rapids to meeting at the Heartland office to sign an agreement, it worked. The openness Rich shared on stage about the process and what to look out for with design and build process, without fake claims or touting Heartland, really, really appealed to me. I took notes and felt like he was sharing valuable information someone like I needed to know. I was skeptical I could realistically consider Heartland but was grateful for the information. It took my own research into full renovation to realize that indeed, Heartland was an option.

Co-Construct - The Co-Construct software is rather outdated in my humble opinion, so the move to BuilderTrend was great! But the software doesn't really matter - the staff were super responsive whether you used Co-Construct, BuilderTrend, or just regular ol' e-mail.

We have really enjoyed the build process with Heartland. Project management and communication were excellent! We had some issues come up, but the team (Steve in particular) jumped on those issues to make sure they were handled correctly! Communication, organization/project management and integrity were the most important characteristics we looked for in a builder, and Heartland did not disappoint!

Additional Comments - We just started construction, but through the design phase, Heartland, Rich, Cindy and Steve were very helpful. The use of the architect in the 3D design modeling, was very beneficial. Rich is extremely knowledgeable working with the chief architect, as we sat and looked at the 3D images, and decided what we wanted to do. It was easy to make a change, and visually see the change to see if they is want we wanted.

Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Steve Van Viltd (?). He did a phenomenal job working through some of the issues. He was very technical and worked through some complex issues to get resolutions.
