HGE certainly wasn't the cheapest quote we received for our roof replacement, but we went with them as we felt that the professionalism, thoroughness, and communication we experienced during the sales pitch were worth a premium. Unfortunately, many of these benefits disappear the second you sign the contract. I really do not understand how they are rated so highly.
There is a major issue with their sales team saying one thing and then come installation day finding out that wasn't true. First, we were promised photos of our roof during the installation, so that they could show the quality of their installation. Unsurprisingly those never materialized.
Second, during the sales pitch, we were told repeatedly that any rotted material would be replaced with planks and not plywood, as that is what the underside of our roof was constructed with. The contract we signed did state plywood, but when I pointed this out to the sales rep, he responded that the text was standardized, but that we would be receiving planks. The materials were delivered to our house the day before installation and, lo and behold, it included plywood sheets rather than planks. When I asked our project manager about this, we were informed that all projects use plywood, and there was nothing to be done. Despite messaging him about this the day before installation, he did not respond until the installation was already in progress.
This leads to our third issue, which was a lack of communication. Beyond the issue with the planks, we did not see our project manager at all during the installation (during the sales pitch you are told that they will be on site part of the day to answer questions you may have), and the sub-contractors showed up without saying a word, replaced most (but not all) of our roof, and then left. They returned unannounced a few days later to finish the roof, again without any notification.
Finally, the contractors did a terrible job protecting our property. They put tarps on the side of our house to theoretically catch the roof material as it was falling, but they did not properly secure them, resulting in parts of our roof falling directly on our glass patio door, AC condenser and landscaping. Much of our landscaping in the front of our house is trampled and is unlikely to recover. After they left, we found at least a dozen nails in our driveway.
It took around a month after the roof was installed for us to meet the project manager for the first time, and we expressed these concerns to him. It seemed like these were recurring issues with these subcontractors, and they did give us a tiny discount for damage to our patio door, which was nice, but it didn't feel like anything would change. He also said he would try to get us something for our damaged landscaping, but unsurprisingly we never received any follow-up on that after we handed him the check.
All in all, a very disappointing experience and we very much regret paying a premium for sub-par service. The only reason this review is not 1 star is because (as far as we can tell) it does seem to be a quality roof.
Fast, efficient, one day service as promised
did a good job, took care of any issues promptly, are more expensive than local contractors
High pressure sales... I advised salesperson this was an estate owned by three people and I was one of three.
The salesperson didn't adhear to a word a I said.. After 5 hours, we were well on our way to signing a contract, much to my disapproval.
I have had some problems.
Home Genius are true Professionals. They are Customer Service oriented.
We had already dealt with one other company that we cancelled on because it was too expensive. When the salesman from Home Genius came, he quoted us a bit more than the other company. I told him that we could not do that. We liked their ideas, but we could not afford it. There was a lot of negotiation between the salesperson and his people. They came down with a number that was not quite what I wanted, but it was significantly lower. It was about $5,000 lower. So much time had been spent during all this. It was a harrowing process, and I just said yes and agreed to the deal. The day they came to do the work, something horribly shocking happened. They tore off the old roof to find the structure did not meet code, so there was an unforeseen cost. It brought it up to exactly the amount that we were quoted in the beginning. I told them that the roof the looks great, and I'm happy with the vent they put in, but I can't recommend them freely. I can't feel good about that extra $5,000. I feel like I should have known it was at least a possibility. My husband thought we were paying for it all to be done. He blames himself too for not looking at the contract. He really thought he and were on the salesman on the page. Other than that, happy with workmanship. They got it done quickly. So far, it has been good. We have had some storms, and everything seems good.
Home Genius Exteriors is one of the most professional companies I have dealt with on my home.
Exelent job
Salesman was Amazon very personable. After job was finished. One would answer me !!!
These guys showed up on one of the hottest days of the summer and worked until the job was done. They cleaned up everything before they left. Very polite
Required input
Would not recommend this company. Had siding and gutters replaced. Installers were difficult to work with since none of them spoke English. They left scraps and nails everywhere and didn’t do any cleanup for the first three days. I’m still finding nails in my driveway, on sidewalks and in my lawn and bushes. They ripped 12 window screens (which did get repaired), covered my dryer vent with siding, and broke a 6” chunk of stucco which they tried to repair by covering it up with flashing and siding.
Though the work was eventually completed, things were never done right the first time.
Everyone was professional and courteous the roof installation crew completed the job in a timely manner and clean up was great
excellent communication from all involved: sales staff, installation team and office staff.
Complete great job. from Start to completion.
The guys did a great job installing brand new windows on my 1940's home! I really loved working with Home Genius Exteriors, they made the process so easy.
Customer service is poor.
Communication with office staff was really bad
The process was a bit clunky with all the handoffs and the workers were not careful as they damaged several bushes and a landscaping light.
There were scratch marks on my walkways front and back which they did try to remove and my driveway light was broken which they did replace and I have a broken storm window which I need to replace.
Strong workmanship by arriving at 6AM through 6PM all two days. Very courteous workers who took care not to damage property. All showed respect to me and my wife as homeowners.
My roof was replaced in October,
