I had a very easy and simple experience working with JB Roofing. They were patient and kind as I made my choices of colors and were very good about getting back to me and dropping off samples. When I had a couple of issues after the job was complete, Joe came out immediately and made things right and was always very kind and respectful. I would highly recommend them.
I have done roofing myself and I have worked with other roofing contractors regarding my home and I have learned things from my conversations with them so am not completely ignorant of how to do the work The office staff (Jennifer) is GREAT. The crew is hard-working and cleaned up the place good. My insurance claim had a set-in-stone deadline for completion of the work and JB Roofing met that deadline which I am VERY grateful for. However, the deck was not swept and was not free of dirt/debris before ice and water barrier was applied. I know because I checked the deck when they were applying it. When I asked that the deck be swept and cleaned of dirt/debris before applying the ice and water barrier the owner argued with me and said it was not necessary to remove the dirt/debris, that it would stick regardless. The installation instructions for the Rhino ice and water barrier specifically states that the deck should be SWEPT and be clean of all dirt/debris before applying the ice and water barrier. Also they were going to apply only one course of ice and water barrier which would not have met code based on the width of my eaves. Fortunately I caught this and had them apply 2 courses. It left me wondering if other materials were not installed per the manufacturers instructions or per code. There were periods of time when no English-speaking crew member was on-site so I could not communicate concerns or questions. Best practices were not used to temporarily cover holes in the roof after flashing and vent covers were removed to prevent debris from falling into exhaust fan ducts, attic, and attic fan motors. Ice and water barrier was applied on my shed which was not necessary since the shed is not heated and there are no gutter on the shed. I asked the owner why ice and water barrier was applied to the shed and he said they put ice and water barrier on everything regardless. I should have caught this in the estimate but overlooked it. I think the owner should have known ice and water barrier is not necessary on an unheated structure. The existing step flashing on my chimney, installed by a previous roofing contractor, did not need replaced. However JB roofing's owner instructed the crew to caulk close 2 weep holes (on the downside of the roof slope) located at the bottom of the step flashing at each corner of the back side of my brick chimney. Those weep holes are necessary to allow water to escape in case any should get behind the flashing. Thankfully the owner mentioned this to me so I unplugged them. I learned the hard way that you don't close up those holes. I closed up the holes that were in the same location on the house's original flashing and ended up with water damage on my living room ceiling next to the fire place.
Great service and competitive pricing. The work was top notch, and they really spent the time to clean up well after words.
I was happy with the whole process of getting a new roof from beginning to the completed roof. The roof looks great, the crew was on time, worked effectively, and everything was clean when they left.
