We had a terrible experience with Momentum.
First, they told us two weeks in advance that we needed to empty all rooms due to the kitchen remodel and flooring replacement on our first floor. We had planned to leave the furniture and let them move things as they replaced flooring (as other flooring installers had done in the past). Knowing it would be necessary to move everything out more than two weeks before construction started would have been helpful.
When we first started, Momentum's schedule showed a completion date around Halloween 2023. The project was delayed several times, and our final punch list item was finally installed in March 2024.
Momentum tore our old kitchen out on August 21, then very little happened for two weeks. Rough electrical and mechanical took about two days during that time. It would have been nice to have had more work being done in that period. It's incredibly stressful to be without a kitchen.
Momentum made an error ordering our replacement interior doors, leading to the delivery of incorrect doors and hardware. This delayed the project by three weeks. Momentum did not offer to rearrange the schedule to allow us to use our kitchen while waiting for the correct doors. We had to ask Momentum to arrange for the installation of our appliances and an electrical receptacle so we could start using our kitchen before the interior doors were installed.
The plumber installed a new disposal despite the old one being salvaged for reuse. The new disposal was not as powerful as the old one, which wasn't that old. We had to point out that they didn't put the right one in and ask them to switch them out.
Someone threw away the unique bracket for a light fixture we wanted to reuse. I had to source a replacement, although Momentum's project manager took credit for finding the replacement bracket.
The Momentum crew rarely told us about scheduled inspections and were present for none of them. We were lucky that we happened to be home when the inspectors showed up. They failed the finish mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspections. Although Jeremy said he knew the mechanical inspection was happening, I had to text him and ask him to send me a photo of the duct for the range hood because they covered it before the inspection.
The painter furnished cheaper paint than I specified and agreed to in our contract, although they got the correct paint after we complained. The painter thought they were only touching up the paint in two rooms despite the fact that our paint schedule showed that we were painting those rooms new colors. Their prep was terrible--they didn't patch a large scratch in the wall where the cabinets were replaced, and failed to sand some patches that were made previously.
Once the correct doors were delivered, Momentum installed a door that was larger than I specified for my powder room. They also planed this door down on the hinge and strike sides and installed hinges at odd heights that didn't match the adjacent door to the basement. After we complained about the way this door looked, they said it was a temporary door. It would have been nice if they had let us know that it was a temporary door before we complained.
The third powder room door was mysteriously damaged. So they ordered a fourth door for the powder room.
We also had to request a replacement door for our laundry room. The original door rubbed against the threshold and one of the carpenters got overly zealous in sanding it down, so the bottom was not straight.
The flooring subcontractor did a shoddy job. They left many gaps between the flooring and walls that were visible even after the base molding was installed. When we pointed those gaps out, the flooring contractor installed screws to pull the base molding away from the wall to cover the gaps, which looked even worse. We asked for shoe molding, and Momentum said it would be considered a change order, even though we only wanted it to cover the gaps. Luckily, they changed their minds about that after discussing it.
Several errors were made by the cabinet supplier, including changing the width of the cooktop/oven cabinet and not adjusting the widths of the wall cabinets above, leaving a 4" wide gap between the top of our fridge and the bottom of the cabinet above it, leaving the microwave shelf unfinished, and not closing the blind end cabinet adjacent to a 3" wide filler panel, which means anything placed in that cabinet would have fallen out. Momentum did fix these things, although we had to remind them to fix some of them. In addition, we cannot close our silverware drawer easily because the cabinet company failed to account for the need for an outlet at the end of the island (this is a code requirement!). The electrician installed a narrow junction box, but the drawer still catches on it.
We met to discuss the punch list towards the end of the project. Although Drew and our project manager were both present, neither took notes and about half the items we discussed were left off the punch list, and when we pointed out things that were not done, we were accused by Drew in writing of micromanaging and causing all the delays in our project.
In general, our project manager was not present much. Had we not kept an eye on what was happening and pointed out when things were not done, the project would have been an even bigger mess.
There is so much more to the story, but I don't have time to write it all out.
It's sad because I've referred a lot of business to Momentum over the past few years and would never want a mutual client to go through what we went through.
Professional, timely, and high quality workmanship. Had a great experience overall!
We chose Momentum Construction for our kitchen remodel in Ann Arbor, MI after meeting with several home remodeling companies. From our very first conversation with Adam, we got the distinct impression that Momentum genuinely cared about winning our business and would put great attention and care into the work. That sense proved to be true with everyone from Momentum, and we couldn't be happier with the work.
I would strongly recommend Momentum Construction for any home project. Not only do they do great work, but they help you find the right solutions that appropriately balance your desired outcomes with your budget. I will definitely hire them again for future remodeling and building projects.
Momentum does truly high quality work, which can be hard to pull off in the world of remodeling! Their project management, communication, sub-contractor relationships, and craftsmanship is truly top notch. You will miss having the crew around when they leave, but they will leave you with a beautiful space to enjoy for years to come :)
Every single member of the team is down-to-earth, customer-oriented, and committed to quality. Even in the face of project challenges!
The total package, from the value (cost) to the professional nature of the Momentum team, and the final product as produced by the sub-contractors and the ease with which Momentum worked with them, makes it very easy to recommend Momentum to our friends.
We were impressed with Momentum's team and their professionalism throughout the entire process. Jeremy was an amazing project manager and was always on top of things and quick to respond to any questions or requests we had along the way. John and Carter were so friendly and courteous with our entire family and dog.
Momentum Construction is great to work with. They are very organized every step of the way and are responsive when needed. The quality of work they do is high level and they pay a lot of attention to detail. They have very high standards for their work and stand by it 100%. I am confident in referring them to friends and family and will always go to them first for any additional work we may want in the future.
Momentum was fantastic from start to finish! We met with a number of design/build and general contractors for our kitchen remodel. Both my wife and I got a good feeling after the initial meeting with Adam. He was respectful and thorough during the initial consult and provided us with the most detailed initial quote of any company we spoke with. We reviewed Momentum's work on Houzz and found one job they completed that we especially liked. We reached out to this former client as a reference and they had a glowing review - that sealed the deal for us. Amazingly Momentum was able to start and finish the project on time and we were able to see the schedule through the BuildTrend app which made the next steps very clear. Throughout the project Momentum's employees and subcontractors were all very pleasant to have in the house. Drew has been a great project manager to oversee the day-to-day and ensure quality craftsmanship is delivered. Derric has been especially helpful with any design questions we may have. You really get the total package with Momentum and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again!
This is a professional and first class contractor. Excellent work and excellent communication
Working with Adam, Jeremy and the rest of the Momentum crew was almost too easy. The communication was constant, our home was kept clean and the details were important to them. We have built a house before (different company) and were prepared for a rocky experience with our renovation/addition project...the mental prep was completely unnecessary! Thank you, MoCo!
They were great to work with from the start. Professional and beautiful quality work! We are so happy with our new master bathroom!
Great experience all around - they took all the planning on and took a lot of the stress off our shoulders. We have already recommended to friends.
Momentum was professional and transparent from the initial consult to completion of the final punch list.
Momentum did a great job remodeling 3 of our bathrooms. The master was a complete gut with a shower build, new tile, tub, lighting and cabinets. Everything looks amazing and the team was awesome. We were kept in the loop along the way and our expectations were exceeded. Thanks to Eric and the crew!
Very professional and accommodating, from design to completion. The basement looks great!
From beginning to end, it was a pleasure working with Momentum. I would highly recommend them and would use them again!
Recognized Excellence - Absolutely! Eric has been amazing!
Areas Of Satisfaction - SO many! Every step of the way was made so much easier by Eric! He kept the home so clean and organized and was always willing to explain and help us along the way. The quality of work has always been top notch!
We are already planning on using them again.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Quality of work is excellent.
Additional Comments - We plan on using them again
Recognized Excellence - Adam was great to work with during the design phase and he took what I envisioned and turned it into a solid plan. Jeremy was an excellent Project Manager. He was quick to get back to me answering questions and followed through on everything he said he would. The color of the first siding did not match our existing siding to Jeremy’s standards so he sent it back for a better match. I also appreciated his thorough communication to let me know when he or someone else would be coming to work at my house.
Additional Comments - Can Adam and Jeremy help us with our master bathroom next?
Drew and team were great to work with. The team went above and beyond.
Recognized Excellence - Drew was instrumental in project coordination. Installers of trim and paint put in extra extra effort to make sure the job was done right.
Recognized Excellence - Eric, the lead carpenter, is an outstanding individual, who was easy to work with, always pleasant, and did a great job.
Areas Of Satisfaction - I have had many house construction projects in the past, and this company did the best at keeping the dust and dirt in area of construction and out of the rest of the house. I also found their entire team to be very respectful and my daily routine was not significantly interrupted by the construction project.
Thank you for bringing our dream addition to life! I appreciate how you worked with us on combining our wish list and our budget. We are just as happy as a repeat customer as we were the first time. Ben was outstanding and we highly recommend Momentum Construction!
Recognized Excellence - While we had worked with Momentum a few years ago, this was the first time we met or worked with Ben Lutzeier. I was a little nervous working with someone 'new' after such a great experience with Momentum previously. However, Ben was outstanding! He listens and remembers our conversations (even in passing). Even when compared the team I manage at work, Ben is an exceptional listener, which is a rare and invaluable trait! Ben definitely lived up to the MoCo Crew reputation.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Quality, attention to detail, communication, Moco Crew
We would strongly recommend Momentum to anyone seeking a renovation. We would also be available to show off the work to a prospective customer.
Recognized Excellence - Ben and Jeremy were excellent throughout the project. Also Chuck the electrician and Adam W. the plumber went above and beyond what we expected.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The whole project exceeded our expectations. From design to finished product it was great.
Recognized Excellence - Honestly, everyone was a pleasure to work with. Never spoke down to us with questions we may have had. The painters cracked us up. Everyone was great about wearing a mask once we could have people back in the house.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They truly exceeded our expectations, especially reaching out to us while our daughter was in the hospital sick. We look forward to other projects with them!
