took a bit longer than expected and cost more than expected but in the end the result is excellent and the price was fair.
I think renovation is most likely painful for everyone. The incredible growth in expense and ever-expanding timeline of this project make it difficult to recommend NK but, this could be how things go.
The team really listened to me about what I envisioned and created a beautiful design that gave me the kitchen and bathroom I wanted. They also handled my additional work orders and, again, gave me what I wanted.
My first experience with Neil Kelly Seattle was in 2019-20, when NK renovated the kitchen in my small condo. I was so happy with the result that I asked them for help again, this time with my two small bathrooms in 2024. Working with designer Anne Bauer on both projects was wonderful. Besides her design professionalism and her ability to understand my needs and limitations, she came up with great ideas and solutions, and I felt like we made a great team. And even though doing a construction project in a small condo has its challenges, the entire NK team was knowledgeable, creative, and great problem-solvers. A renovation project is not easy, but it was a totally positive experience for me.
The kitchen remodel turned out beautifully, exactly as designed and depicted in the viewpoint pictures constructed. All the woodwork, cabinets, appliances, fixtures, counter-tops and lighting, met our expectations. It is now 6 months since completion, and there are no defects to report!
Great choice for a small kitchen and bath remodel.
Areas Of Satisfaction - We can't say enough good things about Meri. She's a talented designer, extremely professional and very personable - a joy to work with!
My friends will not pay the kind of money I paid for my bathroom.
We learned about Neil Kelly because they are a sponsor of KUOW, Seattle's public news station, and thought that such a community-minded company was a good bet to provide honest, ethical, and quality services. This turned out to be totally correct. Their staff in Seattle were phenomenal - from the knowledgeable, skilled and creative designers to the conscientious, available and experienced project manager and highly skilled craftsmen. Their advice was spot-on, their access to the best products and sub-contractors amazing, and their determination to complete our kitchen/utility room remodel in a timely manner, even in the face of several unexpected and unavoidable problems (like a failed HVAC system that had to be replaced while they were working) was remarkable. The entire staff were at all times patient, friendly, responsive and always true to their promises. We can't say enough good things about Neil Kelly in Seattle.
Our experience with Neil Kelly has been mostly positive. We had our three bathrooms remodeled first. The design process with Jamie and Sophorn was fairly seamless and we were open to most of their ideas and selections. Choosing materials can be overwhelming, but Jamie and Sophorn were able to discern our tastes and presented a smaller array of choices that were very manageable. The quality of workmanship was very good; the tilers in particular did an outstanding job. The project manager, Tony, kept everything on schedule with very little downtime. At the end of the remodel we were extremely happy with the results.
Our kitchen remodel had a few more bumps along the way. Again, Jamie and Sophorn presented us with a design and materials that were in line with our tastes and preferences. Our main problems were the availability and scheduling of subcontractors which resulted in delays, particularly with the flooring. Another delay occurred when the lead carpenter left Neil Kelley and the continuity of installing the cabinets was seriously affected. The result of this was a miscommunication in how the cabinets were laid out. The placement of cabinets impacted the clearance of drawers and a cabinet door; also impacted was the desired clearance between the counter and adjacent family room furniture. Had we not had the change in personnel installing the cabinets, we believe these issues would have been addressed in a timely manner and rectified without adding more delays. However, throughout the process, we were very happy with the project manager (Tony), as he stepped up to address problems as best he could, even coming to the house on a weekend to address a plumbing leak. At the present time, we are still awaiting a cabinet door to address the previously mentioned cabinet clearance problem.
Overall, our experience with Neil Kelly has been very good; we are pleased with the majority of the workmanship. While the cost of our remodels was high, there were no cost overruns. Our advice to prospective clients would be to always stay involved with the day-to-day progress and to speak up when you have questions or if things don't look as expected.
I would not recommend Neil Kelly. In fact, I would warn anybody interested in a remodel project to consider nearly any alternative. We have never had such a horrible experience as a customer of any company, let alone a company delivering a project with a multiple six-figure price tag. During the course of the multi-year project, we were often filled with frustration and disappointment at the poor communication, project management, and job quality. Our feedback and requests for improvements were met with hollow promises, which were nearly never fulfilled.
I have overall had a good experience with Neil Kelly. Amanda is a dream to work with and Katie is always willing to find a way to make things work
My experience with Neil Kelly throughout the design and remodel was very, very good. I especially want to call out Jamie Smugeresky for an exceptional and fun design process, and Don, the on-site leader, for smoothly managing the ups and downs of the construction process and going above and beyond when my husband's medical emergency arose during the pick-up process.
We've already recommended NK to a neighbor.
We've only used Neil Kelly's handyman services so far, and the individual that we dealt with, Jordan, was an exemplar of professionalism. He showed up on time, did the work at a high level of quality, and followed through with his work in a timely and professional manner. Everything has been top-notch with this company.
Remodeling is not for the faint of heart. While the results are highly desirable, the process can also be hugely disruptive. Incredibly pleased I chose Neil Kelly to partner with on my construction odyssey to update and polish my aging home.
From our first meeting to review my crazy wish list to the final walk-through to compile the punch list, I was treated with courtesy and respect. The design process was exactly that: a process – professionally and deftly managed by one of Neil Kelly’s design consultants. Style options and available materials were constantly being evaluated against my needs and budget until a satisfying solution was found. The buildout was performed skillfully, efficiently, and cheerfully. Never once did I feel ignored, overlooked, or uninformed. Whenever an issue arose – and there will be issues! – I was immediately apprised and solutions proposed.
Granted, I don’t miss the noise and mess from the front of my house being torn off, but the Neil Kelly crew was a joy to work with, and the final product spectacular.
We were very satisfied with the design process. Our designer, Jamie Smugeresky, was outstanding. We were less satisfied with project management. Significant communication and follow-through issues were very frustrating.
We had the best time designing the space and then seeing it come to fruition. Despite a challenging market, the entire project was only delayed by one week. They kept us in the loop every step of the way, and when we had questions they were right there. Even towards the end of the project we had a heating issue in our house that was concerning. Our PM Tony came out at 8am on the weekend to make sure it wasn't their work (it wasn't). And he STILL had it fixed for us by their partners. Truly above and beyond. I wouldn't hesitate to work with NK again, what a fun project.
