They have built 2 homes for me.
The home still has not been completely finished and we're tired of the brick wall when we try to get communication from team.
Overall, we were very pleased with our experience with Artisan. However, there were a few significant issues, which I will note below.
My experience was top notch. The home Artisan built completely met our expectations and then some!
While we recognize that Artisan has been impacted like everyone else by supply chain and labor issues, we felt their performance has be less than satisfactory. Communication, both internally between team members, and with us as a client has been very disappointing. Oversight of the work performed by their subcontractors (quality control) has also been poor, resulting in eight pages of punch list items at closing. Artisan's ability to address these unfinished or poorly executed items has also been disappointing. Three months after closing we're still waiting on a long list of repairs to be made, to the point where we've had to start contracting work out ourselves to get it done.
I would recommend they verify the subs and project management ahead of time.
We love the Artisan-designed features of our home and we believe the home is well built. Centerpoint is a disappointment as a vendor regarding quality of cabinets, installation, and response time. It also felt throughout the process that communication among Artisan employees was not good.
staff is always ready to help but sometimes seem very very busy so small issues or questions get extended
Overall, and with the many changes, I would recommend anyone to Artisan. This building process has taken longer than anyone anticipated mainly due to vendor materials, delays and changes within the company. I know Artisan takes great pride in their homes and it is reflected in my home.
I’m writing this review seven months after closing on our house in Celadon. I’ve reached my last straw with trying to get my house fixed and hope that some of this is helpful to others who are deciding on an Artisan home.
I also write this as someone who has guided a major kitchen remodel in our last house. We added 1000 square feet and remodeled 3 bathrooms in our 15 years there too. So I believe I’m qualified to judge Artisan’s work.
It’s also important to note that my oldest child has been seriously ill for over four years. My wife is his full time caregiver and I spend half my time out of state running our businesses. So we were hoping that Artisan would take care of the build so we could focus on my son’s health. That has absolutely NOT been the case.
We would have been better off if we handled the build ourselves. Working with Artisan and their sub contractors has easily been the most stressful and drama filled building experience.
The contract between Artisan and the homeowner states they are to provide the buyer with a list of all sub contractors that will be working on your house before work begins. Demand that list. We never received it. Check references and call those sub contractors. Don’t rely on Google star ratings. Ask other Artisan homeowners their opinions. We’ll tell you who is good and bad.
DO NOT ever let Prestige Tile work on your house. The quality is horrible and the owner is an absolute tool. Demand Artisan use a different tile contractor. I have yet to find a homeowner in Celadon who is happy with their work.
Centerpoint Cabinets has major issues. All of their cabinets are shipped from another manufacturer. They arrive dented and chipped. We’re on our fifth attempt at trying to get our cabinets right. Centerpoint is essentially a step above Lowe’s or Cabinets to Go. I would use a different option if available.
Be on site all the time checking work. I thought we were paying Artisan to oversee our home. They weren’t.
None of our interior walls have been attached to the foundation. Our hallways and walls are crooked. Our stairway to the second floor is crooked because of this. The only way to fix our stairs is to totally rip them out and rebuild.
Our porch is crooked. The ceiling is damaged and not level.
Our fireplace wasn’t installed correctly.
It’s been one major issue after another. I definitely regret buying this house. For almost $900K all I received was a glorified tract home built by mediocre sub contractors.
I really love my new home. I understand this was a spec house but there are a few design issues I want to bring to your attention. I wish there had been drawers added to the primary closet and in both bathrooms! Very unusual not to have a drawer to put your toothbrush in. I love the open space design and just about every other thing about the Wando.
Every person that I came in contact with at Artisan was professional and easy to work with. We are so pleased with our home and would highly recommend this company to build your next home.
not at this time. they are too overwhelmed and over extended. there is discontent, frustration, and a lack of subs and supplies. perhaps this is the state for all builders, i dont know, but it is certainly true here, and this issue resulted in the expenditure of much time and expense for me.
Our below responses will explain our choice here.
We were told by many people, including former customers of Artisan Custom Homes, that the Company built high quality custom homes, that they listened to their clients, and that they delivered results.
We were told that, "you really don't need all the contracts nor paperwork, because Henry Vala and Terry Owens meet all commitments
and go the extra mile to satisfy the Customer."
From our experience, the quality of construction from Artisan Custom Homes is superior but the inability to deliver a quality Product on time and the inability to successfully follow up on commitments is not acceptable.
From our perspective Artisan Custom Homes has overextended itself.
This has seriously hurt the reputation of the Company.
You cannot blame the inability to deliver a final product on Covid and Supply Chain issues.
We signed a contract in July of 2020 with the expectation that our house would be completed in 8 months of approval by Habersham Board.
Approval was received by Habersham Board in October 2020
The house should have been completed in June of 2021
We closed and moved into the house in mid October 2021 (4 months late)
We recognized that there would be some unfinished issues, however, the reality was worse than expected.
We had been told that the closing process would be seamless.
There would be "3 to 4 different sets of eyes screening the finished product (to include Terry of Henry) to insure everything met standard".
We closed and had our walk thru on Friday October 8th.
We were missing towel racks, and toilet paper holders in both bathrooms.
There was a punch list with over 20 items to be completed.
The house had not even been cleaned.
There was construction materials and sawdust on the floors
We were told that a cleaning crew would be in on Saturday morning to clean the house.
They never showed.
My wife and I had to clean and scrub the floors on Sunday, since delivery of our furniture was Monday, October 11th.
It is now December 10th, 2 months since closing and 14 months since we got approval from the Habersham Board for our house.
We still do not have a gas range/oven nor a GE dryer and no firm future delivery date for either
We went to Lowes and bought a range/oven and dryer to use in the interim.
Kathryn's art studio (attached to the garage) is still not completed, we still have painting that needs to be redone, and a significant amount
of adhesive to be removed from Artemis flooring on the front porch, the screened in porch, and the back landing.
Given all of the items listed above, do you think you are living up to the standards that you list on your own website?
We have already recommended to friends and are always pleased to show our beautiful home.
I have told many others that Artisan delivers a superior product.
We are completely satisfied! And have already put the word out to some friends considering building a home in Habersham
Easier Than Expected - Third house we built. And by far the best experience
Habersham was all around the greatest building experience we had, and we have built seven homes.
We are very pleased with the Habersham community and family and professionals, and we love the serene and beautiful atmosphere here.
